Hey Michael,

So, how was it this weekend at the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear? Was your screening of AND THEN I HELPED a success? I would've loved to have been there! David Cronenberg and Ken Russell! DAMN! Unfortunately I was too damn broke!

What are your plans for Horror Realm and Cinema Wasteland? Will you do screenings of the film at those shows?

Mario

It was a great time man, still recovering.

I would've loved to have screened at both of these too, though FOF consumed all time to secure that from happening. Doesn't appear I'll be in town to do Wasteland either, as Slew Hampshire is scheduled to be shooting then. Time will tell man...

Worst case scenario, we can do some hotel room screenings at Horror Realm...those are always a good time!

I was there, seeing the complete film for the first time. I had no idea how affected I would be by the film. I thought I'd go, see it, cheer, listen for my tunes, be proud, then leave. Buuuuuuuuut....
I went, listened to the whole soundtrack, loved the other contributors additions to the flick, marvelled at how my stock soundtrack fit so perfectly, and most importantly, blubbered like a wee baby at the absolute beauty of this work of art (I slyly wiped away my constant tears so nobody would look over to discover a grown man weeping). I seriously have never seen an independent film completely outclass an entire film festival, much less a 50,000 person capacity convention.
Not a word of exaggeration inhabits this description.

Rue Morgue head Rodrigo Gudino suggested I might want to show And Then I Helped at the Festival of Fear. magGot is back?! Fuck, yeah! I was buying a pig in a poke as I had yet to see the film, but my faith in magGot was well-rewarded. So cool to reconnect, we had a lot of fun hanging out. I sent Michael a link to the video from the premiere, hopefully he'll post it on the site.

Cool, Michael. Say, if you're going to be at Horror Realm, be sure to hook me up with a screener of the movie. If you could bring copies of GROTESQUE FANTASIES, I NEVER LEFT THE WHITE ROOM, and THE MAGGOT FILMS COLLECTION on DVD (all with cover art), I'll gladly buy them from you.

The video has been posted Gore-Met. Thanks for taping it for us. To say magGot and I had camera trouble would be an understatement. Ha ha ha... Great meeting you man and thanks also for the article, a great read as usual!

Torso: There is absolutely nothing 'stock' in what you guys recorded for the soundtrack. Incredible stuff. I can't wait to listen to the entire score, it's a nightmare to compile. At length it'd easily fill two cd's if not more...

This is our ten year celebration man, it's been a long road... We both completed our first fulfilled visions ten years ago (for you it was the first full length Red Bastard Brewery album, for me it was my first feature My Crepitus). How freaking cool is it that our roads have completely collided, a decade into our trip?

Seeing you guys perform Friday night was awe inspiring, you were born a rock star. Listening to recordings for ten years of your tunes, then seeing em live and well on stage was inspiring as hell.

The Gore-met: A premiere is one of the most magical and intense experiences you can ever have. To know you believed in our film, without seeing it was rewarding alone. At the end of such a long struggle to see this film through, that was enough to keep the train going.

Ronny from FilmBizarro.com has been another huge support, he too has helped keep the spirit alive. Not only through creating and promoting this forum! He was even the force that pushed I Never Left the White Room into distribution...

The drinks we shared will never be forgotten, it's amazing how those simple moments in celebration mean so much. Cheers man!

Mario: We'll do the hotel room screening for sure...and I'll have the old flicks with me as well.

Jesus: Camera trouble of epic proportions! Who would've thought getting mini DV tapes was an impossible feet in Toronto...and that Best Buy would discontinue carrying them (at the Toronto BB)...? Then to top it off, Jesus camera would be lifted while at the Bovine Sex Club... Who steals from Jesus!??

MagGot, as per usual you are too kind. I referred to those tracks as 'stock' just in a technical way. As in: there was no visual reference in the songwriting process. I put my heart and soul into those tracks, having your style, which I'm pretty accustomed to after over 10 years of friendship and collaboration, as my sole inspiration. You used those tracks ridiculously well, I must say. An awesome display of reverse engineering. Salute!

Hahahah... There's a specific balance of music written to picture and music written without visual reference. I like to break between the two, because you can find surprises in material written with an idea in mind... As with your tunage, it was written with a similar setting in mind... But originally for a different movie score. This was one of those weird things meant to be. Also, having eighteen minutes of score you recorded before the film started production helped to. Going in, these elements were in my head. David Graham also wrote a bundle of the main themes before filming began.

This was a rare experience where we had a lot of the score going in. When you have that, it influences the overall films mood. Our drive to set was long, we had a CD with the score at that stage blasting on the trip.
